Why You Should Embrace Flash |

Flash is here to stay and will drive building performance visualization.
After winding down from the AHR Expo in Chicago, I wanted to take the opportunity to clear up a few misconceptions about the use of Adobe® Flash® that QA Graphics had heard during an educational session as well in discussions in the exhibit hall.
As the building automation industry continues to move into a more visual direction, everyone is becoming familiar with user interfaces, energy dashboards, mobile apps and other rich internet applications. As a company that provides user interfaces and energy dashboards, it’s important that QA Graphics stay on top of the latest technology, including Adobe Flash, which we use in many of our projects, so that we can add animations, video, and interactivity to the rich internet applications that you use on a daily basis.

QA Graphics is pleased to announce their recent partnership with Tridium, Inc. Tridium is a global leader in open platforms, application software frameworks, automation infrastructure technology, energy management and device-to-enterprise integration solutions.
QA Graphics provides extensive graphic services for the building automation industry and in this new partnership will develop a custom 3D symbol library exclusively for Tridium. The library will be developed for use within the NiagaraAX platform, providing end-users with access to high-end graphics and animations that more realistically represent the mechanical systems in place. The library is scheduled to be completed later this spring. When completed, the new graphics will be pre-installed on all Tridium NiagaraAX JACE and Supervisor devices, allowing integrators to consistently assemble more realistic system graphics.

QA Graphics, a leading provider of energy dashboards, is pleased to announce that they will unveil a new mobile application feature for their Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard product during the AHR Expo.
QA Graphics’ Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard makes building performance visual and easy to understand. The educational factor separates it from traditional monitoring dashboards. The solution can contribute to helping building occupants better understand and reduce their energy usage. With the development of this new mobile energy dashboard app, users can access building performance information on the go, and compare it to other organizations that have an Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard in place. The new app is capable of accessing real-time building data from multiple locations and different building automation systems simultaneously. It’s almost limitless as to how many data points can be accessed, and the application can be developed for use across multiple mobile platforms. AHR Expo attendees can visit QA Graphics’ booth 3729 to learn more and interact with this new app on an iPad.
“This new feature expands the potential impact of occupant awareness to a new level. Now that multiple organizations can compare building performance, energy awareness can be much more social,” said Dan McCarty, president of QA Graphics. “For example, universities can get students involved in sustainable initiatives and compare dormitory performance across campus, as well as with other universities across the country.”
AHR attendees can also see QA Graphics’ brief presentation in the product technology theater at 4:30, Tuesday January 24. They will illustrate how the Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard can creatively communicate building performance and how going mobile provides even more opportunities to increase occupant awareness.
This new mobile app complements QA Graphics’ other solutions that allow organizations to make building performance more visible:
• Gateway for BAS Devices or Meters: A fully programmable controller that can communicate with any BAS and acts as another device node using the BACnet IP, BACnet MS/TP, or Lon communication protocols. • Web Interface for JCI Metasys®: Web interface streamlines the integration process with Johnson Controls Inc.’s Metasys building management system and eliminates the need for additional hardware. It takes advantage of the MSEA Secure Data Access DLL to securely access the Metasys system extended architecture (MSEA) data, and handles the entire JCI point configuration, MSEA login, MSEA data retrieval, and the formatting of the returned data for display. • Module for Niagara AX®: A licensed module file that works exclusively with a Niagara AX device, and acts as the gateway between the building automation system and energy dashboard application.
At AHR QA Graphics will also showcase their design capabilities including BAS graphic outsourcing, HVAC 3D development, drafting services, and other multimedia including mobile application development for Apple iOS (iPhone/iPad/iTouch), Android and BlackBerry devices, touchscreen application design, kiosk development, Flash development, product demonstrations and other multimedia solutions.

3D Graphics for Ryko Solutions |

To strengthen its sales presentation to potential customers, Ryko Solutions sought out QA Graphics for a creative solution that would provide better visualization of Ryko car wash systems in customers’ bays. QA Graphics’ 3D design team created a series of photorealistic graphics that accurately showcase the company’s CleanTouch rollover vehicle car wash system.
To complete the project, Ryko provided architectural drawings and QA Graphics visited a car wash location to take photographs, ensuring the final graphics accurately portray the equipment. The graphics illustrate how the car wash station looks from the point of entry, overhead showing the CleanTouch equipment and its components, and exiting the wash.
“Our experience working with QA Graphics was fantastic. They were very responsive to our needs and provided the high-end type of visuals that we were looking for,” said Doug Roush, marketing product manager at Ryko. “We will use these graphics to generate additional revenue. Having such realistic visuals like these will allow us to do so.” Learn more about this project. |

QA Graphics is proudly celebrating its five-year anniversary of providing creative design services.
QA Graphics opened its doors five years ago in a small office space in Ankeny with just three employees. Despite the economic downturn, the company has continued to grow and has expanded into a full-service interactive design firm employing 25. The company also relocated this past year to a brand new office space in Ankeny’s new Prairie Trail development area to account for this growth.
“I think our employees have been key drivers of this steady growth,” said Dan McCarty, president and owner of QA Graphics. “We’ve focused on hiring young and innovative talent, and have empowered them with the tools needed to run with their ideas for new products, more efficient processes, etc.”

Energy Dashboards Are Evolving |

|

Published: January 3, 2012 Author: Sarah Erdman
Technology is rapidly changing the building industry and the momentum doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. E nergy dashboards have evolved significantly during the past few years; originally for the purpose of reviewing complex building information, now it’s commonplace to share this information with the building occupants. Interactive technology has allowed this energy data to be more visual, and more importantly – more accessible.
Adding occupants to the equation has greatly changed how energy dashboards are presented. For occupants, this information must have more of an educational focus and be easier to understand than the technical monitoring that an operations team would review. This is something that QA Graphics continues to focus on. The company has been an industry leader in making building concepts more visual, from BAS graphics for behind the scenes, to high-end equipment models and animations for marketing needs, and energy dashboards for the purpose of educating building occupants.
