Photo-Realistic Graphics are the Future for BAS
It’s a visual age; where even when watching TV we want to be immersed in our movies or feel like we’re sitting in the front row at the football game. As graphics capabilities evolve, we expect the same in the building automation world. As a control system graphic designer at QA Graphics, I’ve personally seen this trend take shape. Symbol libraries and stock images used within the industry have significantly advanced. QA Graphics has led many of these trends, driving the industry to higher graphics standards. They created custom symbol libraries for six of the largest control manufacturers, most recently having provided 3D image creation and super templates for Johnson Controls Inc.’s Metasys® Graphics+ graphics package and the 3D graphic library for Tridium’s Niagara AX Framework®.
Visualization
As the building automation industry evolves, building performance data and other information continues to become more visual and more accessible. QA Graphics has been a leader in making building concepts more visual, from BAS graphics, high-end equipment models and animations, to energy dashboards. Having provided design services for the building automation industry for over a decade now, we’re proud to be at the forefront of these industry changes. Graphics and user interfaces can make a variety of building information available via desktop, mobile, and other platforms to easily access data, help the decision process and make day to day functions easier. QA Graphics isn’t directly involved in managing systems or monitoring data, but can provide graphics or interfaces that can serve as a central resource that allow users to access information in way that’s quick and easy to understand. Information can be presented in a variety of ways; it really just depends on what information you want to make available and who the end user is.

QA Graphics, an Iowa interactive design firm, is pleased to announce that they are developing interactive displays for Hy-Vee, Inc., to help educate their consumers about the supermarket’s sustainable initiatives.
Hy-Vee is an employee-owned corporation operating 233 supermarket stores in eight Midwestern states. The corporation has been taking a number of steps to make its stores and operations more environmentally friendly, and has looked to QA Graphics for a creative way within the stores to illustrate these sustainable initiatives. QA Graphics has developed the Sustainable Building Dashboard, which is an interactive application used to educate about sustainability. The dashboard is planned to be incorporated at all of Hy-Vee’s new store locations. The first store it has been implemented at is the Hy-Vee in Urbandale, Iowa. The dashboard is displayed on a 42-inch touchscreen near the store entrance, allowing customers to learn more about the store’s sustainable features. The Urbandale store has been designed and built to LEED standards, although it has yet to be formally scored.
