Planning for 2026 and Beyond: Why Standards, Outsourcing, and ROI Matter More Than Ever for System Integrators

January 8, 2026

As system integrators plan for 2026 and beyond, many are realizing that the challenges they face today are not temporary. Limited technical resources, increasing project complexity, and competitive pressure are forcing owners and leadership teams to rethink how work gets done.

From our customers’ feedback, several realities are consistent across the industry.

Controls technicians and engineers are overloaded
Experienced talent is difficult to find and retain
Projects demand faster delivery with higher expectations

These pressures are driving a shift toward smarter resource allocation rather than simply adding headcount.

Standards as a Competitive Advantage

One area where leading integrators are separating themselves is through the creation of internal standards.

Consistent graphic standards and system layouts reduce confusion, improve usability for end users, and create a recognizable look and feel across projects. Integrators who invest in standards are able to deliver projects more efficiently while reinforcing their brand in competitive markets.

This is where symbol libraries become a powerful differentiator.

A well built symbol library ensures consistency across every project, regardless of who is working on it. It eliminates rework, reduces design time, and allows teams to move faster without sacrificing quality. Over time, these standards become intellectual property that helps integrators stand out during proposals and customer demos.

QA Graphics works with integrators to help establish and support these standards across their projects.

The ROI Is a Business Decision

When owners step back and look at the numbers, the return on investment becomes clear.

Internal teams spending hours creating floor plans and system graphics represents a significant cost when compared to outsourcing those tasks to a specialized provider. When labor rates, opportunity cost, rework, and schedule impact are considered, the ROI is often a no brainer.

Outsourcing allows integrators to:

Reduce internal labor costs tied to non essential tasks
Increase throughput without increasing headcount
Deliver more consistent and professional results
Improve margins by keeping skilled labor focused on revenue generating work

This is not a technical decision. It is a business decision that owners should actively evaluate.

Practicing What We Preach

At QA Graphics, we practice what we preach.

While our core services are delivered by our in house team, we also leverage outsourced partners for non core functions within our own organization. This allows us to remain focused, scalable, and efficient while maintaining quality and accountability.

The same model applies to system integrators.

By outsourcing non essential services like floor plans and system graphics to QA Graphics, integrators gain a partner who understands the building automation industry and operates within established standards and workflows.

Looking Ahead

The integrators who succeed in 2026 and beyond will be the ones who build repeatable standards, protect their internal teams’ time, and make data driven business decisions.

Outsourcing is no longer a stopgap solution. It is a strategic tool for long term growth.

Focused on What We Do Best: Supporting the BAS Industry Through Dedicated Graphics Expertise

October 29, 2025

In the building automation world, visuals form the bridge between technical systems and the people who use them. Whether it’s a facility manager navigating a controls interface, a technician commissioning equipment, or an owner reviewing a floor plan, clarity in graphics directly impacts project efficiency and user experience.

At QA Graphics, we recognized that early on. Nearly two decades ago, we made the deliberate decision to specialize in graphics only—no controls programming, no commissioning, and no database design. Just professional visualization built to make our customers’ systems easier to understand, manage, and maintain.

Why Focus Matters

Today, our internal team of 19 experienced designers and project managers handles thousands of projects each year, from single-building retrofits to large multi-campus systems. Our scale and stability are the result of staying focused on one mission: delivering the best BAS graphics possible.

By dedicating all of our resources to graphics and visualization, we give system integrators, mechanical contractors, and control manufacturers a trusted partner who complements their expertise, not one that competes with it.

The Industry Challenge: A Technician Shortage Meets Rising Demand

Scroll through any BAS-related social feed and one message stands out: everyone is hiring. Skilled field technicians and controls engineers are in short supply.

At the same time, project loads continue to grow, driven by new construction, modernization efforts, and energy efficiency initiatives. The result is simple — the industry needs to do more with fewer hands.

When your best technicians spend hours building graphics or cleaning up floor plans, that’s valuable time lost from commissioning, service work, and client relationships. Outsourcing the visualization layer allows your internal staff to focus on high-value field tasks that generate revenue and maintain client satisfaction.

It’s not just outsourcing for convenience; it’s a smarter use of resources.

A Shift in How the Industry Thinks About Graphics

Across the country, decision-makers at system integration firms and large control manufacturers are taking a closer look at the return on investment of creating graphics in-house.

Maintaining software licenses, hardware, and trained staff for the visual layer can be costly, and those resources are often stretched across multiple responsibilities. The numbers tell the story: outsourcing BAS graphics reduces overhead, increases output, and accelerates project delivery without compromising quality.

An even greater shift is taking place as companies seek U.S.-based partners that perform all work domestically. QA Graphics has always completed its work in-house in the United States, with a dedicated team of designers and project managers who understand the standards, schedules, and expectations of the North American BAS market. For many clients, that assurance of quality, security, and clear communication has become as valuable as the graphics themselves.

How QA Graphics Supports the Industry

Our approach is built around consistency, scalability, and partnership:

System Graphics: Developed to your standards for Niagara, Tridium, Schneider, JCI, Trane, and more.
2D and 3D Floor Plans: Created from CAD, Revit, or PDF files and optimized for BAS use.
Symbol Libraries: Custom or pre-built libraries that maintain brand and project consistency.
Scalable Project Support: From single sites to enterprise-level systems, our team scales with your workload.
Non-Competitive Alignment: We don’t perform control work, commissioning, or database design. Our role is to enhance yours.

Built to Support the Industry’s Largest Projects

Because of our longevity and reputation, QA Graphics can meet the financial and operational requirements of major manufacturers, contractors, and government agencies.

Payment Flexibility: We understand the realities of the construction process. Larger projects often include extended net terms, and QA Graphics has the stability and structure to support them.
Federal and Commercial Capabilities: We maintain a registered Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code, a five-character identifier that allows us to work directly with the U.S. federal government as both a prime contractor and subcontractor.
U.S.-Based and Clearance-Ready: Many projects now require U.S.-based suppliers. Over the past two decades, QA Graphics has completed some of the largest federal building automation projects in the country. Several members of our team also hold U.S. federal security clearances, enabling us to work on sensitive or restricted-access projects.

As compliance requirements tighten and companies prioritize sourcing from domestic partners, QA Graphics continues to be a reliable, proven resource for both private and government sectors.

The Value of Partnership and Proven ROI

The building automation industry is changing. Decision-makers are prioritizing ROI, scalability, and reliability — and rethinking how they allocate their internal resources. Partnering with QA Graphics delivers measurable benefits:

Maximizing ROI: Why BAS System Integrators Outsource Graphics & Floor Plans to QA Graphics

August 14, 2025

One of the biggest challenges BAS system integrators face today is finding enough skilled technicians to perform control installations. With labor resources strained, any time a technician spends building BAS graphics or floor plans is time not spent in the field delivering installations, troubleshooting systems, or supporting clients.

The Hidden Cost of In-House Graphics

Handling graphics internally stretches timelines, raises labor costs, and can impact customer satisfaction—draining ROI and limiting scalability.

For floor plans in particular, the cost of entry to do them in-house with the latest software, hardware, and trained staff is rarely justifiable. For 99% of BAS system integrators, the ROI simply doesn’t add up—especially when the goal is to match the speed, quality, and technology that QA Graphics delivers.

How Outsourcing Boosts Efficiency & Profitability

By outsourcing building automation system graphics and BAS floor plan design to QA Graphics, system integrators reclaim their most valuable resource—time. Instead of being bogged down with design work, their technicians can focus on field operations.

The result?

Faster project turnaround thanks to parallel workflows
Reduced overhead by tapping a specialized design team
